5 Ways to Enjoy Spring in Zagreb

Birds are chirping, the sun is shining and the city is buzzing with the excitement of the upcoming spring! There are many ways to enjoy Zagreb, especially in the warmer months of the year. Here is a list of 5 things to do if you are planning to visit Zagreb in spring.

1. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the sun

When the Sun starts shining, locals usually make sure to take a moment to relax and chat with friends. Of course, the best place to do so is in many cafes around town. Grab your friends or a good book, pick a spot in the Sun, and order your favorite beverage. You can even experience the so-called Špica, a Saturday-morning coffee frenzy in Bogovićeva Street and Cvjetni trg (Flower Square).

2. Wander through Upper Town

Upper Town of Zagreb hides many interesting and quirky stories, just waiting to be discovered. Book our Upper Town Wanderings tour and explore the oldest part of the city. Walking around cobbled streets will make you forget that you’re in a busy capital, especially with one of our guides who will charm you with unusual stories from the city’s past.

3. Visit Maksimir Park

Take a stroll through the oldest park in Zagreb, the first public park in southeast Europe and one of the first ones in the world. This park will amaze you with stunning nature and interesting history. You can have a picnic, visit ZOO, or take a boat ride at one of Maksimir’s lakes.

4. Take a tour through parks in the city’s center

If you’re not up for a tram ride to Park Maksimir, you can visit parks located near the city center. Why not make it into a green tour throughout Zagreb? The Botanical Garden is a 10-minute walk away from Ban Jelacic Square, and it is filled with more than 10,000 plants brought from all over the world as well as exotic ones. It opens at the beginning of April and has a free entrance.

On Zrinski Square, just a few blocks away from the city center you will find Park Zrinjevac, an ideal place to take a break from a busy lifestyle. Zrinjevac promenade has been popular since its creation so we advise you to take a stroll and imagine taking part in the picturesque history of Zagreb.

5. Visit Dolac Market

If you’re on the hunt for fresh produce for a picnic in one of the city’s green oases or for a nourishing meal, be sure to stop by Dolac Market. Dolac Market, also called “the stomach of Zagreb”, is a big open-air farmers’ market located just behind Ban Jelačić Square. All the stalls have bright cherry red covers on them and it’s a colorful, bustling atmosphere as locals mingle, chat, and do their food shopping.
